The experience of grief is shaped by a variety of psychosocial, cultural, and neurobiological factors. Better understanding the neurobiological systems commonly associated with grief is an important step in developing more effective supports for bereaved individuals. This webinar will offer a practical overview of neurobiological systems that can shape grief reactions commonly addressed in clinical practice. The webinar will discuss evidence-informed interventions for grief reactions linked to the activation of different neural systems, address controversies surrounding the neurobiological conceptualization of grief and describe practical suggestions on ways to translate the science on neurobiological systems into grief therapy.
Learning Objectives:
- Identify at least two neurobiological systems associated with grief
- Describe grief reactions commonly associated with the activation of the neural reward system
- Identify evidence-informed interventions for individuals experiencing different grief reactions
