This webinar identifies the stressors youth experience in response to the prospect of climate change. It describes how an information influx and ongoing media messaging is affecting youth as they struggle with the impacts of more extreme weather and other climate change issues that impact everyday life. Tools will be provided for supporting young people with the anxiety and grief they experience for themselves and their loved ones as they confront fears that their planet could die during their natural lifetime. This webinar will offer age-appropriate language for a meaningful dialogue that acknowledges youth’s and children’s voices, while separating fact from fiction about climate issues, and highlighting inspirational role models and organizations. The goal of this work is transforming anxiety and grief into an atmosphere of hope and resilience.
Learning Objectives:
At the completion of this presentation, participants will be able to:
· Define vocabulary related to youth grief and climate change
· Describe practical ways to engage children and older youth about climate change
· Identify resources available to young people (books and non-profit organizations)
