Anticipating the death of a loved one can be a deeply challenging experience for children. This webinar will provide practical guidance for thanatology professionals on how to support children through this grieving process. Participants will learn about age-appropriate ways to discuss death, explain the grieving process to caregivers, and offer comforting strategies to help children cope before and after the loss. The session will also explore the unique needs of children facing anticipatory grief and provide tools to foster resilience and emotional well-being. These tools will be applicable to multiple settings, including schools, community organizations, hospitals, and private practice.
Learning Objectives:
- Understand the emotional and psychological impact of anticipatory grief on children, and how it differs from other forms of grief.
- Identify age-appropriate strategies and communication techniques to help children process and express their grief during the anticipation of the death of a significant person to them.
- Develop practical tools and approaches to foster resilience and emotional well-being in grieving children.
